The centre ground of British politics has opened up

Burnham has turned left and is where the Lib Dems were.

Badenoch has turned right.

Each dragged there by the Greens and Reform respectively.

Is that the right response?  We'll see.

It's not the first time the centre has opened up.

Last time, Blair parked his bus there with a radical programme and was in power for 10 years.

I can't see any party moving to that space successfully at this time.

But maybe in 2035.  That's a long time to wait.

In the meantime, it's going to feel like 1983 except it's Labour in power.
